I love pumpkins! I have no idea why. Maybe it’s their varying shapes and colors and the fact that they each seem to have their own personality. In October they bring with them the nostalgia of Halloween, with all of its excitement and sometimes eeriness, or perhaps the memory of eating too many Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and then watching Candyman and having the daylights scarred out of you which results in running up stairs and vomiting half way up. Well, at least that’s what I remember. Then, in November, they magically transform into a harvest treat and remind us of spiced pumpkin pies and Thanksgiving feasts. Some people have no respect for the pumpkin and smash them into tiny bits on Halloween night, these people normally come in the form of small prepubescent teenage boys who are in desperate need of video games. So I stand up to the PrePubes and say, “Where is your respect????? Do not harm the magical transformative squash for it is a vegetable like no other!” So maybe I do know why I love pumpkins.
